Cory Judson Yerger, 56, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 22, 2026. Born on March 17, 1970, in Toledo, Ohio, Cory spent much of his youth growing up in Southeast Texas before returning to Toledo, where he graduated from high school. He went on to live a life defined by devotion to his family, service to his country and community, and loyalty to those he loved and cared for.
Cory proudly served his country for more than 20 years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring in 2012. During his distinguished career as a Marine, he served with honor in several Marine and Naval aviation units, both on land and at sea, with assignments that took him around the world. His years in the Marine Corps reflected qualities that remained evident throughout his life: dedication, perseverance, loyalty, and a strong sense of service to others.
Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Cory continued his education and earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. He went on to work in municipal environmental compliance and residential redevelopment project management before ultimately becoming a Home Improvement Specialist with Lowe’s. Cory found genuine satisfaction in his work at Lowe’s, where he excelled at helping customers improve their homes and valued the team he worked with.
Cory also gave generously of his time to his community. He served as an original director of the Emerson Community Homeowners Association and went on to serve for more than 10 years as its president. Through countless hours of volunteer service, Cory worked to strengthen and improve the community he and his family called home.
For all that Cory accomplished in his life, nothing meant more to him than family. While stationed in Japan with the Marine Corps, Cory met Mitsuco, who would become his wife and partner in the life and family they built together. Much of what he enjoyed most involved spending time with and supporting his children. Over the years, he volunteered as a youth sports coach and band booster and devoted countless hours to school activities and the many other commitments that came with raising a family. Whether coaching, volunteering, helping with an event, or simply being there for his children, Cory gave generously of his time and took great pride in supporting each of them in their interests and endeavors. Outside of time spent with family, Cory especially loved live music and attending concerts whenever he had the opportunity.
Cory was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Those closest to him knew a man who cared deeply for his family and remained devoted to them throughout his life. The relationships he built, the people he helped, and the family he loved are the legacy he leaves behind.
Cory is survived by his wife, Mitsuco; his four children, Sgt. Tyler Yerger, USMC, Yuuri Yerger, Jadyn Yerger, and Talia Yerger; his mother, Marilynn Yerger; his brothers, Kristopher Yerger and Erik Yerger; and his extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Judson Yerger, Jr.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada 89128. A reception and Celebration of Life will follow, with details available at the conclusion of the Mass.
