February 16, 1970 – November 18, 2023
Liz Armstrong was a stellar gymnast with a vivacious personality. Starting in club gymnastics in Sacramento at age seven, she spent 17 years competing through her senior year at Boise State University (BSU), where she excelled at the four events of
vault, uneven bars, beam and floor. Liz was also a child advocate champion, who fiercely fought for her two boys, doing whatever was necessary to get them the developmental services they needed. A mama bear protecting her cubs had nothing on Liz! One friend remarked how Liz had a zest for life. Liz threw that zest into everything, especially her children.
Liz was born as Elizabeth Jo Seeley on February 16, 1970, on March Air Force Base in Riverside, CA, to Kenneth Clayton Seeley and Kathleen Bryce Anderson-Scott. Ken had always wanted a son, but after fathering four daughters, he went a perfect five-for-five with girls when youngest Elizabeth was born.
Liz grew up in North Highlands, CA, a Sacramento suburb. After graduation, she attended BSU on a gymnastics scholarship. She took a slight detour from gymnastics at age 21, when it was discovered that she had a heart defect, so she red-shirted her senior year to have open-heart surgery and came back even stronger her final year. While on the BSU gymnastics squad, Liz was the life-of-the-party, always laughing and not hesitating to use spirited language. She was affectionately known by her BSU teammates as Miss Manners. Shortly after graduation, Liz accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized in Boise. Liz’s salvation only mildly tempered her spirited ways, however.
Liz met her husband, Marcus (Marc) Armstrong at a business conference in Portland, OR, in October 1995. It was a whirlwind long-distance romance until Liz and Marc both agreed to move to Seattle and were married on August 31, 1996, in Kirkland, WA. Liz and Marc welcomed their first son, Braden, into the world on March 30, 1999, and his younger brother, Bryce, followed on December 31, 2001 (perfect tax planning). Liz worked tirelessly to advocate for both boys to ensure they had the best lives possible. The Armstrongs lived in several places over the years, including Seattle, Springfield, MO, the SF Bay Area, Sacramento (where they lived for nine years), Minden, NV (their favorite home ever), Big Bear, CA, and the last nine years in Las Vegas.
Liz loved hosting when the boys’ huge gaggle of high school friends would converge upon the Armstrong home for weekly Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), monthly Poker tourneys or playoff football watch parties with up to 20 friends in the house. She loved her sons more than anything in the world.
On November 18, 2023, Elizabeth Jo Seeley Armstrong escaped her earthly pain (gymnastics takes quite a toll on one’s body) to go live in a restored body with her Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Seeley and Kathleen Anderson-Scott, sister Cheryl (Seeley) Byers and nephew Steven Miller. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Marc, her two sons, Braden and Bryce, three sisters, Deborah Scott, Donna Seeley and Ann Seeley, and several nieces and nephews.
Liz was stubborn, but fiercely loyal, a fireball to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed. We love you, Liz!! 216
