May 9, 1948 – May 23, 2023
We honor and celebrate the Inspiring Life of J.D. DOBSON. J.D. will be cherished and remembered through the legacy of his family and friends.
A LIFE WELL LIVED
“It is imperative that we seek the promptings of the spirit – and we must always obey those promptings.”
This is the mantra that has guided the life of J. D. Dobson.
J. D. Dobson was born May 9, 1948 and grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, in a family whose daily prayers included giving thanks for living “under the shadow of the temple.” Throughout his early life his parents taught their family the importance of living gospel principles, obeying the prophet, and searching the scriptures for truth and light.
He served a two-year mission in New Zealand as a representative of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He attended Brigham Young University on a full four-year scholarship where he graduated magna Cum Laude and received the High Honors designation from the Honors Program. He served as Chairman of the American Perspective Lecture Series, and was a member of the International Ballroom Dance Team.
J.D. has continued his love of service in various callings, particularly in callings to teach. He believed his devotion to scripture study, living gospel principles, and his mantra sustained him through the trials of life.
He passed away of Covid-related complications on Tuesday, May 23, just 14 days after his 75th birthday.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Flora Adams Dobson, and his father, Jesse LaVerd Dobson. No doubt they are graced by a joyous reunion. He is survived by his sisters Lorelei Kay Matsuda (Lloyd) and Lisa Marie Potter (Van).
His sisters would like to thank Silver Ridge Health Care and Infinity Hospice Care for the excellent care they gave him during his final months.
May he eternally continue his love of ballroom dancing and waltz through the heavens.
A service was held in his honor for family and friends on June 10, 2023, at the Palmyra Ward, 1801 Monte Christopher Way, Las Vegas, NV.
